Historical Summary - The physical position of Thessaloniki on the map reveals that the city is the unique exit of the Balkan states to the Aegean and eventually to the Mediterranean Sea.  As a result many nations were looking with envy the city itself, thinking and organising plans to gain control of it, finally proved to be unsuccessful in most of the times. Among the ambitious landlords of the city, Norman, Franks and Turks occupied this beautiful city for a number of years. 

Coming to examine a history that is more than 2500 years old, it is concluded that the multicultural character of the city created a lot of interesting achievements, not only in the commercial sector, but in the cultural area as well.
